2024 Plant Forward Florida Keys Restaurant Guide!
By plants, I am referring to fruits and vegetables! Most restaurants in the Keys only offer french fries or coleslaw for sides.
I instruct my clients to make half of their plate vegetables, but many are unable to do this when eating out! If your favorite restaurant is not on this list, it does not mean you cannot find healthy options there! I have lots of tips and tricks for this. Schedule a consultation and we will discuss how to make healthy choices at your favorite restaurant! Some of you rarely eat out and when you do, you are definitely NOT ordering a salad. I get that. It is called balance and that’s okay too! I’m pictured above with a salad but will say that I rarely order a salad out. This was more of a vehicle for the ahi tuna. That being said, I love a good salad! Any guesses where this picture was taken?!
So I thought I would make a list of restaurants in the Keys/South Florida that are PLANT forward. This means they have a good amount of plant offerings either in the appetizers, entrees, or side options.
Introducing my 2023 The Keys to Nutrition - Restaurant Guide!
An important detail to note, is that I have NOT been paid to write this. I offer restaurant menu consulting and will happily review your menu and make suggestions to add more plants. Please email me for consulting services. If you would like to apply to have your restaurant menu highlight “RD approved” options with our very Keysie key lime (shown below), please email me to participate in my restaurant program!
A not so brief aside, for those of you who do not know, key limes are yellow, not green! The type of limes we traditionally find in our grocery stores are green, Persian limes. Key limes start green on the trees then turn yellow when they are ripe! Key limes are about half the size of Persian limes. Now you know! If you’re just finding this out now, it’s okay! Even Betty Crocker had it wrong in her cookbook! I had to write to her to have it corrected.
This is not a comprehensive list and is subject to change. If you would like to make suggestions, I am open to adding more here upon review. I may need to see for myself and visit them first!
Also, I am not saying every dish is a healthy choice, but simply that you can find a fruit or vegetable based dish, if you are looking for them! There are other factors in nutrition of course. My intention is to focus on plants - specifically fruits and vegetables.
Restaurants are listed in alphabetical order based on location. I added Miami/Homestead as many of us travel there on occasion.
